1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how the Islamix mobile application (the "App") handles information when you use it. It applies to the App on Apple iOS/iPadOS and Google Android.
In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to A.T.A.N Industries, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17306187) with its registered office at 483 Green Lanes, London, England, N13 4FG, the publisher of the App. "You" refers to the person using the App.
We designed Islamix to work primarily on your device and to process as little information as possible. The App has no user accounts, no login, no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no social or messaging features. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to track you across other apps or websites.
2. Summary
- Islamix uses your device location to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction and to determine your time zone. This calculation happens on your device.
- When you search for a city, or when the App displays the name of your current location, limited location information (a search term, or your approximate coordinates) is sent — through a proxy server we operate — to our geocoding provider, LocationIQ, to return a place name. This is described in Section 3.1.
- The App uses Google Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring to collect crash reports and performance diagnostics so we can find and fix problems. This is described in Section 3.2.
- Your settings and preferences are stored only on your device.
- We do not use your data for advertising or tracking, and we do not sell it.
3. Information we process
3.1 Location information
Islamix uses location to provide its core religious functions: prayer time calculation, Qibla (direction of prayer), and time-zone determination.
Processed on your device. Your coordinates are read using your operating system's location services and used on your device to compute prayer times, the Qibla bearing, and your local time zone. This computation happens locally on your device.
Transmitted for place naming. To turn a location into a readable place name, limited location-related information is sent to our geocoding provider, LocationIQ:
- City search. When you type a city, town, or area into the location search field, the text you type is sent to be matched against place names.
- Current-location name. When the App shows the name of your current location, your device's approximate coordinates — rounded to reduce precision before transmission — are sent to convert those coordinates into a place name (for example, a city or town).
How these requests are routed. These requests pass through a lightweight proxy server that we operate (hosted by Cloudflare). Its sole purpose is to attach our API credentials and forward the request to LocationIQ, so that our credentials are never placed in the App. The proxy caches the resulting place names to reduce repeat requests; it does not store your coordinates against your identity, and there are no accounts. LocationIQ returns place data derived from OpenStreetMap. Cloudflare (which hosts our proxy) and LocationIQ each process this information under their own terms (see Section 6). We do not sell location data.
Stored on your device. So the App keeps working when a fresh location fix is unavailable (for example, when device location services are switched off), the App stores your last known coordinates and, if you chose a city manually, the name of that city locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to us.
You can disable location access at any time in your device settings. If you do, you can still use the App by entering a city manually.
3.2 Crash reports and performance diagnostics
The App integrates Google Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring (provided by Google). These tools collect diagnostic information to help us keep the App stable and performant, including:
- crash logs and stack traces, and the state of the App at the time of a crash;
- device and system characteristics such as device model, operating-system version, language, and available memory or storage;
- performance metrics such as App start-up time, screen rendering, and the duration and success of network requests; and
- a Firebase installation identifier — a randomly generated identifier used by Firebase to attribute diagnostics to an installation of the App. This identifier is not your name, email, or account, and we do not use it to identify you personally.
This information is processed by Google as our data processor and is used only to diagnose crashes and improve performance. It is not used for advertising and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. Google processes it in accordance with its own terms; see Section 6.
The App does not include Google Analytics for Firebase or any advertising SDK.
3.3 Notifications
The App can send you local reminder notifications for prayers, adhkār, and related reminders. These notifications are scheduled and delivered on your device based on your calculated prayer times and settings. Sending them requires your permission, which you can grant or revoke in your device settings. We do not send you marketing notifications.
3.4 App settings and preferences (stored on your device only)
The App stores your preferences locally on your device so it can remember your choices. These include, for example: your prayer calculation method and madhab, manual prayer-time adjustments, notification and sound preferences, theme settings, haptic (vibration) setting, home-screen arrangement, widget configuration, and the cached name of your location. On iOS, a limited set of these preferences may be shared between the App and its home-screen widget using an Apple App Group container on your device. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
3.5 Information we do not collect
We do not collect or ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, health data, financial data, or precise browsing history, and the App has no user accounts.
4. How information is used
We (and, where stated, our third-party processors) use the information above to:
- calculate and display prayer times, the Qibla direction, and the Islamic (Hijri) calendar;
- determine your time zone and locality for accurate timing and display;
- schedule and deliver prayer and reminder notifications you have enabled;
- resolve place names for search and current-location display; and
- detect, diagnose, and fix crashes and performance problems.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
5. Legal bases for processing (UK / EU users)
Islamix is published by A.T.A.N Industries, established in the United Kingdom, and where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for accessing your device location and for sending notifications, which you grant through your operating system's permission prompts and can withdraw at any time in your device settings.
- Legitimate interests — for resolving place names to make location features usable, and for collecting crash and performance diagnostics to keep the App secure, stable, and functional. You can object to this; see Section 9.
6. Third-party services and processors
The App relies on the following third parties. Each operates under its own terms and privacy policy:
- LocationIQ — geocoding provider (converts search text and approximate coordinates into place names). Privacy: locationiq.com/privacy
- Cloudflare — hosts the proxy server through which our geocoding requests are routed. Privacy: www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
- Google Firebase (Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring) — crash and performance diagnostics. Google Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy · Firebase data processing information: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Apple — App distribution and notification delivery on iOS. Privacy: www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Google Play — App distribution and system notification delivery on Android. Privacy: policies.google.com/privacy
Place data provided through LocationIQ is derived from OpenStreetMap and is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. Attribution to LocationIQ and to OpenStreetMap contributors is displayed within the App.
7. Data retention
- On-device information (settings, cached location, last-known coordinates, geocoding cache) remains on your device until you clear it, change it, or uninstall the App.
- Crash and performance diagnostics processed through Firebase are retained by Google for the period set by Firebase's default retention for those products, after which they are deleted or aggregated. See Firebase's documentation for current retention periods.
- Geocoding requests are processed to return a result in real time. Our proxy caches the resulting place names temporarily to reduce repeat requests; it does not retain your coordinates against your identity. LocationIQ processes requests under its own retention terms.
8. Storage and international transfers
Information processed through Firebase may be stored and processed on Google's servers, which may be located outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Our geocoding proxy runs on Cloudflare's global edge network, and geocoding requests are processed by LocationIQ, in each case potentially outside the United Kingdom. Where information is transferred internationally, the relevant provider applies safeguards required by applicable law (such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses). We do not maintain a database of users or store a personal profile about you.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal information, and to data portability.
Because Islamix has no accounts and holds no personal profile about you, you can exercise most controls directly:
- Location — disable or change location permission in your device settings; use manual city entry instead.
- Notifications — disable notifications in your device settings.
- Local data — clear it by uninstalling the App, which removes all on-device information. See islamix.app/data-deletion.
- Crash/performance diagnostics — to request that we stop processing your diagnostics, or to ask about diagnostics associated with your installation, contact us at founders@islamix.app. Note that diagnostics are not linked to your identity, which may limit our ability to locate records specific to you.
To make a request or ask a privacy question, contact us at founders@islamix.app. If you are in the UK or EU and believe we have not resolved your concern, you may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).
10. Children's privacy
Islamix is a general-audience religious utility and is not directed to children under the age required for consent in your jurisdiction (for example, 13 in the United States or 13–16 in the UK/EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us and we will address it.
11. Security
We rely on your device's built-in protections for on-device information, and information transmitted to our proxy, LocationIQ, and Firebase is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, where changes are material, provide a more prominent notice within the App or on our website. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
